Social Network For Security Executives: Network, Learn & Collaborate
Would you cut & paste your intimate, private details onto Social Media for the world to see?
I understand we’re struggling to cope with isolation and boredom, but I’m cringing at the thought of the tidal wave of privacy violations and abuse of confidentiality on the horizon.
Many of my friends, family, and connections on different platforms are freely sharing a wealth of private information through platforms like Facebook.
Posts start with “I don’t normally do this, but…” and then proceed to cut & paste a list of attributes from a friend and update them with their own.
Just yesterday, I saw one friend share a list of 50 things that included everything from pet’s names to first cars to favourite movies to favourite restaurants. They copied it from someone else, and I guarantee someone copied it onwards from them.
Then there is the wealth of “What kind of x are you”, “Can you name all 50 bands”, and “Are you a genius, solve this puzzle” posts.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it. “Get off Facebook”, you tell me.
Considering what I do, I treat it as one massive social experiment, and it’s a real eye-opener. From the actions of others, I can observe and try to understand and perhaps, offer a little advice.
Stay safe out there.
