The “Closing the Cyber Skills Gap” panel featured Davina Pruitt, Naomi Buckwalter, and was moderated by Matthew Rosenquist on Oct 21st 2021.

One of the most pressing challenges for the digitally connected and transforming world is the undermining of security and trust. Cybersecurity is the barrier protecting our systems, data, privacy, services, and capabilities. But the threats far exceed the capacity of those professionals that guard against their attacks. We are experiencing a momentous deficit in the talent pool, with mounting demands growing every year.

The panel discusses how to reverse the situation and sustainably satisfy the human resources needed to make our evolving digital world secure.

Dr. Davina Pruitt-Mentle https://www.linkedin.com/in/davina-pruitt-mentle-ph-d-0010759/

Naomi Buckwalter https://www.linkedin.com/in/naomi-buckwalter/

Matthew Rosenquist https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthewrosenquist/

Hiring Desperation May Create Cybersecurity Riskshttps://www.cisoplatform.com/profiles/blogs/hiring-desperation-may-create-cybersecurity-risks2021-09-18T04:44:26.000Z2021-09-18T04:44:26.000ZMatthew Rosenquisthttps://www.cisoplatform.com/members/MatthewRosenquist

With 11 million job openings in the U.S., the most ever, how desperate will organizations be to hire personnel? I am concerned that cybersecurity risks of insiders will increase if processes for proper vetting and background checks become lax for new-hires.

I suggest my fellow Chief Information Security Officers (CISO’s) have a discussion with the head of their Human Resources to understand if the cyber risks are going to increase in the organization due to more 'flexible' hiring practices.

Security Economy podcast - The Talent Shortage in Cybersecurityhttps://www.cisoplatform.com/profiles/blogs/security-economy-podcast-the-talent-shortage-in-cybersecurity2020-03-03T20:00:00.000Z2020-03-03T20:00:00.000ZMatthew Rosenquisthttps://www.cisoplatform.com/members/MatthewRosenquist

Topic of discussion : The Talent Shortage in Cybersecurity

Listen To Podcast: https://player.captivate.fm/episode/6c842a64-cff1-4119-beb3-1989940c47cf

Thank you Katelyn Ilkani, I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the challenges of the talent shortage in cybersecurity in your Security Economy podcast! There are many opportunities in cybersecurity for those who have the passion and interest, but navigating the path to a rewarding career can be difficult.

We covered so many areas, including leadership, risks, security value, AI threats and ethics, and how organizations can establish a sustainable strategic cybersecurity capability (details at ~30min mark for the strategic capability). We closed with addressing challenges for small/medium businesses, cyber insurance, academia's role, Ethical AI, and the future of the cybersecurity industry.

Such a great conversation!

Take a look at other Security Economy episodes at https://www.securityeconomy.com/ She publishes them every other Friday!

For those who listened to the podcast, I did reference a recent post "The 7 Most Dangerous Digital Technology Trends", which can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/7-most-dangerous-digital-technology-trends-matthew-rosenquist
