Unveiling the Dark Side of the Internet: Shodan, the Search Engine for Connected Devices by Chris Ray and Bikash Barai

Chris Ray, Security Architect discusses with Bikash Barai co-founder of CISO Platform & Firecompass. They discover Shodan, the search engine that exposes the hidden world of internet-connected devices, from security cameras to cloud resources. Learn how it can be used to identify vulnerabilities and penetrate networks.

I never thought of Shodan. You're right. Has been around a long time. Shodan is the search engine for lOT. That's what it was called. I don't know if it's still called that, but essentially, if you're not familiar with Shodan, it's like Google, but for Internet connected stuff, cloud resources, webcams, security cameras, whatever ends up on the Internet ends up in Shodan. And it fingerprints it. It looks to identify what type of service, maybe manufacturer, what operating system, etcetera. And you can go there and you can look for specific versions of OS, hardware, applications that you know are vulnerable. And you can search for it just as easily as you would search for an answer from Google.

Chris Ray, a seasoned professional in the cybersecurity field, brings a wealth of experience from small teams to large financial institutions, as well as industries such as healthcare, financials, and tech.
